Computer class
"Can you
make it today without me?", says
Mr. Computer.
"Give
me a click whether you
are left or right handed", says Dr. Mouse.
Teacher: Mrs. Lahuana Bayha
Young children are naturally curious about their environments, including technology. Since we are living in a century in which scientific discoveries are moving at a lightning speed, we are compelled to move with the technological tide, otherwise we will be technically left behind.
TCA children have the undeniable right to benefit from this cutting-edge academic benefit. Both preschoolers and kindergarten have exposure to this modern technology through computer classes.
- The use of reading and math computer games enable
them to acquire reading and math skills.
- Since preschoolers are still "non-readers", we avail
audio-visual games to make them capable to follow oral
directions given by their teachers, their parents and
other adults.
- They all learn to identify basic computer terminology
namely the
monitor, keyboard, mouse, floppy disk, compact disk
(CD), speakers,...
a. 2's
They are learning the computer parts and are taught
how to move and click the mouse. They have
audio-visual games under the teacher's supervision to
help them learn how to follow instructions. They are
also shown how to start a computer and a monitor.
b. 3's
They are learning what the two's are taught. In
addition to that, they are trained how to use a mouse
to point and single-click. They are also learning to exit
a program by clicking "X" in the window. They are
guided to play some memory or thinking games.
c. 4's
Their computer knowledge covers what the two's and
3's are learning.
They are able to identify visible computer components
such as the monitor, the CPU,, the floppy and compact
disks, the disk drive, the printer,...They learn how to
place the CD on CD the drive tray. They must also be
able to locate the alphabet letters and the numbers on
the keyboard. They have an opportunity to play
educational preschool
games.
d. Kindergarteners
They are supposed to master the computer class notions
taught to the 2's, 3's, and 4's. They learn how to use
the "Start" menu in Windows 98 to find and launch a
program, how to manipulate a window by moving,
resizing, minimizing, maximizing, restoring and closing it.
They must also be able to identify icons and their
related programs.
They are shown how to use a mouse for double-clicking
on an icon. Softwares containing educational
kindergarten games are available.
